Marine Omics
Technology Lab

The Marine Omics and Technology Lab (Buerger Lab) uses biotechnology, such as genetic solutions, assisted evolution and comparative genomics to understand how aquatic organisms adapt to new environments. We harness this knowledge to learn about their genetic mechanisms, influence their biology for specific outcomes and to address critical challenges. For example, our research focuses on understanding and improving the thermal tolerance of corals and their symbiotic microalgae (Symbiodiniaceae) to support their adaptation to climate change and the development of effective ecological conservation strategies.

We are based at Macquarie University, Applied BioSciences, in Sydney (Australia).
